Social media marketing talks alot about the algorithm, in simple terms - how does that work?

The algorithm is a mix of ads based on things you have liked in the past, things you already engage with, and is ultimately a “best guess” at what the platform think you want to see, and are most likely to engage with.  Engagement in the form of likes, comments, and shares.  If you are enjoying the content, you are more likely to stay on the platform longer, which gives them more opportunity to show you ads.

What is a content calendar?

A content calendar is when there is a plan of future content.  Spending time now, to outline the desired content, allows for your marketing to weave the tale you would like to tell your customers.  It allows a company to put together content that works with past posts, and leads the way to continue a story with future posts.

There are companies that offer to sell me followers. Why don't I just do that?

The challenge with purchasing followers/likes/views etc, is that once your money runs out – so does the engagement you just paid for.  The algorithm will notice the decline and decide that your content isn’t as engaging as it used to be, so it won’t be shown to as many people and hurts you.

How can the website help?

The greatest thing about a website, is that it isn’t controlled by the algorithm.  It is content you control, we just need to drive traffic to it.  If you have a blog/subscription as part of your website, you better control getting your message in front of an audience, you don’t fight an algorithm.
